The number one mistake architects + designers make

Marketing for architects, marketing for designers

How well do you know your audience? The most common mistake I see architects and designers make is marketing to their industry colleagues – NOT their audience.

Now I’m not saying it isn’t important for you to have a presence within your industry. There is always a place for that. What I am saying is that your industry is not generally your revenue stream.
.
So if you are wanting to gain more clients and customers, you need to start looking more closely at your audience. The more you know about them, the more opportunities you have to build trust and transparency. And that’s how you win work.

So why is it so important?

More often than not, your audience wants you to help them make a decision. The key is figuring out what problem they need solved and how you can help them. Have you heard yourself say “My client just doesn’t understand X process..”? This is a big clue to what content you can create to help them.

Exercise

  1. Write down all of the areas that your clients or customers have difficulty understanding. What content or collateral can you create for each item that will help them?

  2. Generally, what problems do you clients or customers come to you with? Write a list of these, and again, create content or collateral for each that will help them make a decision.
